Any insight as to why this is being billed as "opening the way to ordination for gays and lesbians"? The coverage makes it sound like priestly ordination was up for a moratorium or even discussion, and this resolution has "opened the path." Unless I'm mistaken, that path has been open, at least in some dioceses, for a long time. Are we back-tracking here or moving forward? Its hard to tell from short articles read between crying fits. (the baby, not me! )

I read the episcopal cafe link, and suffice it to say, I am still confused! Yes, we are Anglicans, but to remain that way "officially" what will be the cost? And how can we call ourselves Christians (much less Anglicans) if we allow that cost to be exacted? I find it sad and insulting to be labeled by other Christians as going against Scripture and Faith. If anything, the full inclusion of all the baptized in all of the church is a courageous action based on Scripture and a huge leap of faith that acknowledges God's grace and love in the midst of all this chaos.

Sharing our stories is what living together as the Body of Christ is all about. Thanks so much for your reflections and your witness.

Thank you Mike, for participating in this. I'm wondering if you experienced a sense of vulnerability on the ABC's part, as well as the group's deep sharing?

I'm so glad, Mike. I think it was so wise just to share your stories. May the Spirit now be at work stirring up new possibilities, new energy, new vision and a new sense of connectedness. :)

A couple of years ago I had a conversation with another Christian Formation Director about the struggle that our church was contending with in the wake of Gene Robinson's election and consecration. Her point was that the struggle caused so much stress and unrest that people were were leaving. She also felt that folks sitting on the margins were disgusted with the infighting. She didn't think it was worth it. But I agree with you. I haven't always had the language at hand to express what I believe but your comment about "silent complicity" is helpful to me. So is Elizabeth's comment, back in my first year of EfM, when we were talking about "church politics" in a negative sense. She suggested that we reframe our thinking to consider that maybe the struggle was like labor, (birthing), and that maybe the strain and sweat and pain and even trauma is worthwhile.

My heart is also heavy for the latest young person who was thrown out of his home by his parents. I hope our church will take some further steps, during GC, towards inclusion and welcome and affirmation.

Peace!

One last Bp Tutu video link - this one is good because it expands the idea of Ubuntu as he describes the pandemic of AIDS and the end of Apartheid. Runs 3 and a half minutes.
